RSP-PV-... are Class I+II surge arresters for DC applications such as protection of the PV (photovoltaic systems) side of the DC, especially in high exposure areas or building entrances LPZ 0-2 (IEC 62305-4) against damage caused by direct or near lightning strikes; they are suitable for the main switchgear.

The DC surge arresters of the RSP-PV 80kA series provide effective protection of PV system components, such as solar panels and inverters, against damage caused by lightning or other electrical disturbances, thanks to their high discharge capacity of up to 80 kA. A built-in potential-free contact enables remote fault signalling

The RSP-PV12.5 -1200-3P DC arresters are ideal for distributed PV systems, while the RSP-PV8 -1500-3P is ideal for long-range PV systems. For high protection of PV strings, the RSP-PV12.5 -600-2P DC arrester is dedicated, while the RSP-PV12.5 -1000-3P is suitable for high power DC installations.

 

Protection

PV arresters up to 80 kA surges use special high-performance varistors (MOVs) to provide effective protection against overvoltage and lightning while eliminating the problem of follow-on current. Each pole of the arrester is equipped with two separate varistor modules connected in parallel - this solution is called double redundancy. Each of these modules has its own signalling window to indicate its operational status. Thanks to this design, if one module fails or its indicator turns red, the other module still provides continuous protection for the device. This allows safe and uninterrupted operation of the arrester and allows the damaged module to be replaced at a convenient time, without risk of interruption to the protection of the installation.
