RSP-PV surge arresters with a maximum discharge current of 50 kA are Class I+II, Type 1+2 protectors for DC applications, such as protection of the PV (photovoltaic systems) side of DC, especially in high-exposure areas or building entrances LPZ 0-2 (IEC 62305-4) against damage caused by direct or near lightning strikes; they are suitable for the main switchgear.  

The arresters in this series for DC installations have a built-in potential-free contact (1P) for remote fault indication. The RSP-PV4.5 -600-2P and RSP-PV6.0 -1000-3P arresters are dedicated to protect PV strings and small, medium and large PV installations. RSP-PV4.5 -1200-3P and RSP-PV4.5 -1500-3P arresters for commercial PV systems and solar farms.

Protection
Surge arresters up to 50 kA use high-performance varistors (MOV), which effectively protect the installation against overvoltage and lightning while eliminating the risk of follow-up current.

It is worth noting the double redundancy of the protection modules in each pole - this means that two independent MOV modules operate in parallel in a single pole. Each of these modules has its own signalling window, allowing visual monitoring of their status.

Thanks to this design, even if one of the modules fails or its indication window turns red, the arrester continues to operate and provide protection. This allows for continuity of surge protection and gives the user the ability to schedule replacement of the failed module at a convenient time, without immediate interruption to the system.
